Migration from Africa to Europe

Baba Musah Swallah explores the phenomenon of illegal migration from Africa to Europe, inquiring into contested pressures, desires and socia-political structures that motivate some African youth to illegally migrate to Europe.
In a series of mixed material works on canvas, wood, and glass, he reflects upon the personal loss of two of his friends from Nima, Accra, who died while traversing the Sahara to reach Libya in 2006 and other on died in the Mediterranean Sea in 2005.
Playing with the tension between dreams/ desires and harsh realities, he documents and opens up dialogue on the quest for greener pastures outside of Africa.
