The Edinburgh Hotel & Cellars says
Please join us and explore PRIORAT & BIERZO, Spain with Scott Wasley, Australia’s resident Iberian wineguy and Conquistador to the New World.

On tasting will be the wines of DJP & Alvaro Palacios who over the last 20 plus years, ferreted out neglected, clapped-out old vineyards and restored them to health. With the world now thirsty for great wine, Spain and the world is only beginning to rediscover many of these old vines...

Descendientes de J. Palacios (DJP), DO Bierzo
Ricardo Perez Palacios and Alvaro Palacios
The region of Bierzo (north-western Spain) is in the process of reverting to its native grape varieties of Mencia (red) and Godello (white), where there are now 4500 hectares planted, 90% red, mainly in small plots of 400-800 square metres. The main local grape is Mencia (Men-Thee-Ah) and is the Spanish Red Wine you need to drink - wonderfully scented and alive with luscious red / black fruits!

Alvaro Palacios, DOQ Priorat
Alvaro is one of the group of 5 famed ‘pioneers’ who arrived in Priorat in 1989 primed to recover and reinvent the remnant old local Garnacha of the region. In the intervening 25 years, an enormous transformation has been wrought. Alvaro is its most skilled and subtle exponent to encapsulate the delicacy of Garnacha.

The following wines will be tasted:

Petalos 2014
Corullon Vi de Vila 2014
Moncerbal Paraje 2014
Las Lamas Paraje 2014

Camins del Priorat 2014
Vi de Costers, Les Terrasses 2014
Vi de Vila, Gratallops 2014
Vi de Finca, Finca Dofi 2014

Plus we'll be serving authentic tapas and queso plates that show the wines at their very best.
