Hugo Michell Gallery invites you to our final exhibition of the year, Fiona Lowry's ‘Out in the Night’ and Daniel Emma's ‘Bling Bling Dynasty’.

Fiona Lowry is a master of her technique, creating otherworldly surfaces, reflecting the haunting qualities of a gothic Australian landscape. Lowry’s latest exhibition ‘Out in the Night’ extends on established narratives within her practice examining histories and tales of the bush. Naked figures assume positions of submission, sublime reverence, and suggestive malevolent actions. These compositions appear as snapshots to untold rituals that carry the same latent purpose as the landscape they inhabit. Lowry pushes against our sanitized colonial painting traditions that seek to progress and civilize the landscape for the purposes of occupation and nationhood. Instead ‘Out in the Night’ offers a more challenging contemplation of this space, one which houses latent energy from past ghosts that wrestle with the ultimate beauty of the nature abundant. Lowry has had an illustrious career to date, winning the Archibald Prize in 2014, Fleurieu Art prize in 2013 and the Doug Moran National Portriat Prize in 2008.

Established in 2008 by Daniel To and Emma Aiston; design studio Daniel Emma create a large variety of projects, ranging from desk objects, furniture and large installations. These impeccable and modest objects draw inspiration from simple geometric forms and demonstrate an appreciation for material. ‘Bling Bling Dynasty’ will present a little bit of luxury and spark imagination. Daniel Emma have recently been included in the Rigg Design Awards at the National Gallery of Victoria, New Acquisitions at the Art Gallery of Western Australia and The Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Finalists; 2009, 2010, 2011.

Please join us in celebrating these two fantastic exhibitions on the 17th of November!
