dye a silkymerino swing dress

Enjoy a day with India Flint, botanical alchemist and peripatetic seamstress, at the Poet’s Ode, stitching a semamori (a protective mark, traditional in Japan) into, and dyeing, a fabulous Silkymerino dress, one of the most useful things to have in your wardrobe whether enjoying the comforts of home or for the wandering life of a traveller. It has three-quarter sleeves, discreet side pockets and a handkerchief hem. Wear it by itself on gentle days or build layers over under it as the season slips slowly into winter.

We’ll design and stitch the semamori, layer the dress with leaves and bundle it into the dyepot, then enjoy a lovely light lunch as the cauldron works its magic.

You will be supplied with a pre-made Silkymerino dress (one of a limited edition of 99 designed by India), a handful of lovely silk+cotton yarn with which to stitch your own semamori and some extra pieces of silk in case you’d like add a tiny pocket for a poem.

PLEASE NOTE : WE WILL BE USING COMMUNAL DYEPOTS – THE COLOUR OF YOUR GARMENT WILL BE DETERMINED BY WHAT IS INSIDE THE BUNDLES, NOT NECESSARILY BY THE BREW IN THE CAULDRON

Date; Sunday November 13th
Time: 10am - 4pm
Investment: $550
