Alan Sondheim: Recent Work says
Alan Sondheim, musician, poet, theorist, and former curator at Atlanta Contemporary will give a multi-media presentation Friday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m.

Sondheim will “talk about my current work with some looking back; I’ve worked with motion capture (altering it), virtual worlds . . . also talk about ‘revrev’, an ideal of real-time reverse reverberation which is impossible (time would have to run backwards) - what this means in terms of philosophically thinking about improvisation and digital music.”

The presentation will include audio and video samples of Sondheim’s work.

Sondheim’s served as curator at Atlanta Contemporary (known as Nexus Contemporary Art Center at the time) in the early 1980s.

“Alan Sondheim’s First Atlanta Biennale shook up an Atlanta art scene unaware of its own rich diversity,” said art critic and poet Jerry Cullum. “His curatorial practice always combined sophisticated theory with art that was visually and auditorially amazing.”

On Wednesday, May 18, Sondheim with his collaborator and wife Azure Carter will participate in Eyedrum’s Sonic Adventures, a monthly open session of acoustic improvisation. Sonic Adventures will begin at 7:30.
