Borders & Bridges: Race Caucuses Hosted By Atlanta Pride Committee says
The Atlanta Pride Committee would like to formally announce our support and solidarity with Communities of Color. Over the past 45 years, Atlanta Pride has participated, supported, watched, and remained silent on a myriad of issues impacting the intersectional lives of people who are LGBTQ+. Atlanta Pride has responsibility and culpability for how we engage and respond to racial justice. We deeply desire an empowering Pride for all LGBTQ+ people and we struggle with how to get there.

In an effort to build relationships with Communities of Color throughout the Atlanta Region, the Atlanta Pride Committee is working with community leaders to host events, which thus far include community discussion forums, a marching space within the parade, and an offer to work for Communities of Color toward participation and accessibility within Pride. As the Atlanta Pride Committee publicly joins the existing work for racial and economic justice, we invite all LGBTQ+ people to build intentional and beloved community in Atlanta through a firm and collective stand especially against police brutality, the criminalization of poverty, the policing our neighborhoods, and the school to prison pipeline.

After speaking with a few community leaders, race caucuses were suggested as one way the Atlanta Pride Committee could host spaces for conversations around racial justice. Join us for the first of these conversations on September 10th for a POC caucus and a white caucus at the Phillip Rush Center from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. These caucuses will be lightly facilitated by community leaders.
