WHAT IT’S ABOUT:
"Leonard Pitts, Jr. is the most insightful and inspiring columnist of his generation."
—Tavis Smiley

The latest exploration of race relations in America from Leonard Pitts, Jr. is not a column in response to the most recent racially-charged incident to hit the news cycle--as they seem to every day now--but a fictional story set during President Obama's first inauguration. In GRANT PARK, Pitts weaves a story of two former activists in the civil rights movement, a white supremacist plot, and the collision of the past and the present to paint a vivid portrait of a conflicted America during the landmark 2008 election. GRANT PARK is a page-turning and provocative look at black and white relations in contemporary America, blending the absurd and the poignant in a well-crafted narrative that showcases Pitts's gift for telling emotionally wrenching stories.

"Leonard Pitts...makes us better for having read him. What a gift. In sparse, often electric prose, Pitts challenges us to be bigger than we thought possible, and then shows us how to get there."
—Connie Schulz, Cleveland Plain-Dealer
