Emerson Unitarian Universalist Congregation and Alex Spitzer will be presenting "Movement Without Limitations", an evening of movie and dance at 7pm, February 25, 2017. The movie "Movement Without Limitations" is a documentary Lauren Giovannoni, on Alex's dance career that was made in 2007, and then Alex will be performing a few dances live for the congregation and the public. Alex Spitzer is a professional dancer in Atlanta, Georgia, area. He has been dancing professionally for twenty five years. The unique thing about Alex's dancing though is he dances from his wheelchair. He has been disabled since birth with Arthrogryposis, a muscle and joint disorder. He also got his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Dance from Texas Woman's University in 1999. As far as anyone knows he is the first dancer in a wheelchair to get a four year bachelors degree in dance in the USA, if not in the whole world. His view of himself as purely a Dancer rather than as a "wheelchair dancer or disabled dancer" makes him unique in the dance world. The strength of that view combined with the artistry of his choreography and his dance create a powerful manifestation the truth of this belief."

Alex started dancing in 1990 at Plano Senior High School in Texas. He presented his first dance concert at age 19, and started his own dance company, Spitzer Dance Company in 1992 at age 20. He studied dance in college while running his own dance company in the Dallas, Texas, area and graduated from Texas Woman's University with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance in 1999. And in those early years he also danced across the United States in Cleveland, Atlanta, Boston, Knoxville, Los Angeles, and in New York City, plus around Texas. In 2002 after relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, he restarted Spitzer Dance Company and continued the company till 2014. Currently he dances with Beacon Dance in Decatur.
