This meeting and all subsequent meetings will be generally facilitated by Amanda Mills (Murmur). She will also assist in coordinating the zine exhibit and panel. Amanda Mills’ educational background is in English Rhetoric. She has been involved in zine-making since elementary school, including an internship with the Denver Zine Library, teaching a weekly class on zine-making at her high school, forming the Atlanta Zine Library in college, and organizing the Atlanta Zine Fest. Her current project, Murmur, is a community resource for DIY and ephemeral media.

Perzines with Katherine Paist.
Tuesday, April 14th.
5 - 6:30 PM
Must be enrolled (can enroll at any time, max 12).

Katherine’s perzine, Hypoglogia, was featured by Creative Loafing as a highlight at the 2014 Atlanta Zine Fest. Katherine will talk about her work and how she uses creative writing techniques to express personal experiences.

We will then look at examples of perzines from the Atlanta Zine Library. Attendees are encouraged to share things that stand out to them from the example zines. Using a prompt, everyone--including facilitators--will have time for a free-write. We will talk about what it means to create a safe space for sharing. Attendees will share their work from the prompt for feedback and encouragement. Lastly, using magazines and other visual materials, we will talk about how to choose imagery to support and highlight your written words. Everyone is then expected to work on their perzines at home and bring them to next week’s meeting.
