Perspectives On German Opera: Tannhäuser says
Join us for our latest lecture in our Perspectives on German Opera series with Mr. David Kerr.
During this lecture, we will visit Richard Wagner's second mature work, "Tannhäuser." Here Wagner wrestles with the juxtaposition of carnal love with spiritual love, between the desires of the flesh with the longings of the soul.

The search for a perfect, transcendent love dominated much of his work, but never more explicitly presented as in this opera. "Tannhäuser" also has the distinction of having caused perhaps the biggest riot in the history of the Paris Opéra.

The course will be taught in English. No pre-existing knowledge of music required.

Admission:
$30 for members who register in advance
$35 for members at the door
$45 for non-members
