Weekly: On Writing Locally With Nicki Salcedo, Dan Whisenhunt And Dena Mellick says
"Write what you know," and "All news is local," are maxims for writers in different professions but they all need to consider place and audience--whether writing novels, essays, or news stories.

Weekly: On Writing Locally will be a discussion and celebration of the work produced by three local writers for Decaturish.com

Atlanta native, author and blogger, Nicki Salcedo's weekly column INTERSECTIONS was born from the desire to have a local voice, an editorial voice on Decaturish.com, that touched first on stories important to Decatur and Atlanta, then to Georgia, the South, and to bigger issues of life in America, the world, to gender, race, and adulthood.

Dena Mellick is Associate Editor of Decaturish. Dena has worked in both local and national TV news, including Fox 5 Atlanta and CNN. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Georgia and a Master of Theological Studies from Emory University. She lives in Decatur, GA with her husband and two (usually misbehaving) dogs.

Dan Whisenhunt is an Alabama boy who moved to Decatur, Georgia in 2012. He cut his teeth as a journalist with the Anniston Star in Anniston, Alabama, leaving after four wonderful years—three as a reporter and one as an assistant editor—for the Times Free Press in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he served as the county government reporter. Thereafter, he worked at the Reporter Newspapers in Sandy Springs as assistant editor and digital content manager.

Dan started Decaturish in May 2013 as a personal project, done in his spare time; and as page views have grown, it has become a trusted source for local news.
