All Night Vigil To Protect Our Communities: Stop #Hb40 says
WHAT:
Join Public Citizen Texas, Environment Texas, Texas Sierra Club, National Nurses United and Texas Campaign for the Environment for an all-night vigil demonstration on the Texas Capitol grounds to protest HB 40 which will be up for debate and a vote in the Texas House on Tuesday, April 14. Bring pitchforks and lanterns – let’s show our lawmakers that Texas communities will not sleep through the loss of local control on safety standards for oil and gas operations!

COME EVEN IF YOU CAN ONLY STAY FOR A BIT! BRING FOOD, INSTRUMENTS, AND FRIENDS!

WHY:
Over 300 cities in Texas have passed local ordinances protecting the health, safety and property values of residents in urban areas around oil and gas activity. Now, the Texas Legislature is seeking to preempt local control over common sense protections for our quality of life.

Rep. Drew Darby’s HB40, was rammed through the Calendars Committee on April 8 for a vote on House Floor this coming Tuesday. Even with amended language, the bill will take away local government authority to protect citizens and property. Concerns from a broad array of opponents – from cities to fire chiefs to individual homeowners to environmental groups – must now be addressed on the floor of the House.

Send an email to your State House member and Key State House Leaders to urge them to fix HB 40 using this link: http://bit.ly/1Cn42D8!
