Austin Poetry Slam says
We're getting into the swing of summer here at APS, and for this week, in addition to our regular poetry slam, we've got a great double feature for your listening / watching pleasure - Ashe Vernon and Jordan Hamilton!

Hooray!

We let 13 poets into our regular slam, all poets are scored, and we cut to 6 for the second round, and to 3 in the final round. The top three poets all win cash prizes! Wow!

Feature Bios:

Ashe is a soon-to-be-graduated theatre major at Stephen F. Austin State University; she is a produced playwright, an actor, and a poet. She's been writing long as she can remember, but found poetry when she most needed it. Her first poetry collection, Belly of the Beast, was published by Words Dance Publishing and her second, Wrong Side of a Fist Fight, is set to come out in July from Where Are You Press. She spends most of her time writing her way out of dark places, and looking to the stars.

Ashe has featured in venues across Texas, such as The Standpipe Coffee House in Lufkin, Nacogdoches Literary Readings, and Love Jonz Spoken Jazz, in Duncanville. She has placed first at WriteAboutNow in Houston and has been published in volumes one and two of the Literary Sexts anthologies. She's been doing theatre her whole life, so don't worry--she's not yelling, she's just excited.

Jordan Hamilton was born in 1991.He doesn't remember much after that until his Junior year of high school, when he took his first hit of poetry. He's been an addict ever since. In 2010, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps which took him to San Diego. In California,he cut his teeth at various slams and open mics, including Elevated! and Lyrical Exchange, where he had his first feature. In 2014,Jordan was a finalist in the North Park Poetry Slam. This year,Jordan has been a feature and a winner at the Standpipe Poetry Slam in Lufkin,TX.

He's been known to give hugs instead of handshakes. Jordan has been a brother,a Marine, and a poet but his favorite thing he's ever been is in love with a girl who has the same name as him.Jordan writes poetry hoping to figure things out. He's still not sure if it's working but he's having a fantastic time.
