Associate Professor Kirsten Cather from the Department of Asian Studies guides a musical exploration of the influences shared between the East and the West in this semester's second Excessive Noise concert at the Fine Arts Library. The program — “Orient-Occident” — features UT alumnus and staff member Page Stephens, mezzo soprano, singing Benjamin Britten's "Songs from the Chinese" with UT DMA student Chad Ibison, guitar; current DMA student Kay He's "Soliloquy - Wings" after "Jingwei Filling the Sea" will be performed by fellow DMA student Shih-Wen Fan, clarinet; Charles Herbert Chadwell V and Nathan Mertens, both current saxophone students, perform a new work by alumnus and staff member Russell Podgorsek; and Pakistani folk and Sufi music by musicians from National Academy of Performing Arts, Karachi.
