Austin History Center, Austin Public Library says
The Austin History Center and the 100th Birthday Celebration Committees for Mathews Elementary School and Metz Elementary School invite you to a reception in honor of the schools’ one hundredth birthdays. Dr. Benjamin Kramer, Director of Education at KLRU, will emcee a program that will look back at the histories of these schools and the future of education in Austin. Speakers include former AISD Superintendent Pat Forgione, UTeach Institute Director Kimberly Hughes, Professor and Mathews alum Robert Bode, and Metz alum Danny Camacho. The program is held in conjunction with the Austin History Center’s exhibit Making the Grade: Austin’s First Public Schools and there will be time to view the exhibit during the reception. The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served.
