It's all over the news these days: same sex marriage debates and gossip surrounding celebrity divorces. While public opinion on these topics is often formed based on social morals, one might wonder:
What is the true Jewish perspective of marriage and divorce?
In a world of independent women, is marriage still necessary?
Is divorce allowed based on Jewish law?
Is there a difference between legal divorce and religious divorce?
This month, we welcome Rabbi Samuel Rose, Assistant Rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel and Israel/Judaism History extraordinaire to answer these (and other) questions.
No prior Jewish knowledge is required to attend Torah on Tap. Whether you cannot fathom a life without marriage, or can't understand why one might trade in Tinder for monogamy, you are welcomed to join in the discussion. We ask that people bring their opinions, questions, and concerns regarding this topic. Please come with an open mind and willingness to learn from Rabbi Rose and your peers.
