These days, most of us enjoy music by streaming songs off Spotify and Apple Music. Tapping the screen or asking Alexa to play our favorite tunes is certainly convenient, but for real music lovers, nothing beats the pleasure of listening to a beloved song from an analog source; nothing is more pleasurable than handling a physical copy and appreciating the artwork on the sleeve of a vinyl or CD.

We love that digital music is available to us, but it was also sad witnessing how analog music’s popularity slowly faded away. Only a few music shops have survived, their doors always open to lisztomaniacs who still want to browse through actual physical copies rather than scroll through a screen to discover new music.

Recently, LPs or vinyls have made a comeback. More music fans have discovered the joy of building up their collection. And if you’re reading this piece, we assume you’re one of those who still have much affection for musical collectibles. The good thing is, Bangkok has more than a handful of shops catering to your old school preference. Here’s a list.

Avid vinyl connoisseurs tend to be hush-hush about this “secret” music shop located above Black Amber barber shop in Thonglor. The majority of merchandise focus on legendary gems from the ’80s and ’90s, with some indie records from local Thai artists. Lower your expectations if you wish to find Lady Gaga or Ariana Grande here.

For years, Garage Records was a cloud shop specializing in Britpop. Now, it’s a physical store catering mostly to fans of, say, Oasis or Blur. The compact shop has a moderate collection of around 500 LPs and is frequented by ’90s kids who grew up during the heyday of alternative music. The fact that most of the albums sold at Garage Records are original pressings is a bonus.

Garage Records is open by appointment only.

The store carries an extensive catalog of records that cover everything from international artists to Thai hits. Pre-loved records are also sold here on a discount.

There’s no beating around the bush with the name of this shop on Soi Pradiphat 19.
