As part of the 17th annuanl Brisbane Queer Film Festival, Butch Duo will showcase two films, each representing the lesbian identity and its many romances.

FEELINGS ARE FACTS: THE LIFE OF YVONNE RAINER

Witness how one individual can change history in this exploration of legendary artist Yvonne Rainer.

Meet Yvonne Rainer: a dancer, performer, choreographer and filmmaker, who has spent her whole career pushing boundaries of traditional art forms. In this documentary, you will follow the life of an artist, who has been challenging and influencing the arts since the 1960s, and who continues to do so. Images from Yvonne’s childhood will give you an insight into her fascinating background, helping you understand how she became a true feminist and activist. You don’t need to be an art expert to enjoy this documentary. You just need to be curious about how one individual can change history.

THE ROYAL ROAD

A cinematic essay in defense of remembering, The Royal Road offers up a primer on Junipero Serra’s Spanish colonization of California and the Mexican American War, all against a contemplative backdrop of 16mm urban California landscapes. Featuring Tony Kushner, as the female voice over on the soundtrack, ‘a gender-dysphoric tomboy’ from the Midwest, a ‘cherished relief from the awkward realities of daily life.’

We are proud to showcase two distinct films representing the butch lesbian identity with its many romances in The Butch Duo. The Royal Road will screen as part of a double documentary feature with Feelings Are Facts: The Life of Yvonne Rainer.
