EARTH & FIRE: CERAMICS FROM THE QUT ART COLLECTION
#QUTEarthandFire | bit.ly/Earthandfire

Ceramics have experienced a revival in contemporary art and design in recent years. Their low-tech approach, combined with a yearning to slow down in an era of digitisation and instant gratification, has renewed interest in the millennia-old craft.

QUT's Art Collection encompasses the work of Australia’s leading practitioners, with many of the objects representing some of the finest examples of the artist’s work. 'Earth and Fire' gathers these works to explore the last five decades of ceramic practice with its organic, experimental and seemingly imperfect qualities that are as much about the mark of the maker as the material and process.

ARTISTS INCLUDE
Glenn BARKLEY, Errol BARNES, Stephen BAXTER, Stephen BIRD, David and Hermia BOYD, Kirsten COELHO, Marea GAZZARD, Gwyn HANSSEN PIGOTT, Col LEVY, Milton MOON, Reg PRESTON, Shiga SHIGEO, THANCOUPIE, and Gerry WEDD.

LESS THAN: ART AND REDUCTIONISM
#QUTLessThan | bit.ly/Lessthan

This exhibition delves into the artist’s pursuit of nothingness—
or at least the next best thing. Reductionist techniques have been used by artists working in geometric abstraction, colour field painting, conceptualism and minimalism during the last century, and are today more relevant than ever. This exhibition presents works from the QUT Art Collection by Australian and international artists who employ a reductive approach or aesthetic, dating from the 1960s to now.

ARTISTS INCLUDE
Peter ATKINS, Leonard BROWN, Ian BURN, Alexander CALDER,
Christian CAPURRO, Eugene CARCHESIO, John COBURN, Sam CRANSTOUN, A.D.S. DONALDSON, Michael EATHER, Margery EDWARDS, Sol LEWITT, Robert MACPHERSON, Daniel MCKEWEN, Mervyn MUHLING, John NIXON, Alex SETON, Pierre SOULAGES, Rover THOMAS, Trevor VICKERS, and George WARD TJUNGURRAYI.
