Hands On Holiday Intensive: Kinetic Art Intensive says
Explore the intricacies and engineering involved in creating a moving artwork inspired by the works of Australian Indigenous artist Robert Andrew.

Join us at the Museum of Brisbane these school holidays for two weeks of hands-on art workshops for children aged 8-15 years. The day begins with an inspiration session touring an exhibition or exploring City Hall followed by a hands-on art activity to complement the focus for that day. Participants will be introduced to new artistic skills, encouraged to be extremely creative and develop an appreciation for existing artworks and architecture. Delivered and facilitated by our experienced art teachers your children will learn about each of our exhibitions and leave each day with a special artwork to display.

This workshop is inspired by Robert Andrew's newest exhibition, Our mutable histories. Robert Andrew is a Brisbane-based Indigenous artist and descendant of the Yawuru people of the Broome area in the Kimberley, Western Australia. Through his art practice and cultural duality he uncovers, reveals and re-presents aspects of Australian Indigenous history and his own family history which have previously been denied or hidden.

After receiving a guided tour of the exhibition, children will look specifically at his works Data Stratification and Ground Up, exploring the intricacies and engineering involved in creating a moving artwork. Children will then get hands-on creating their own kinetic artwork using re-purposed materials such as plastics, wire and cardboard.

Suitable for children ages 8 - 15.
