Newcastle’s finest and heaviest exponents of quirky power pop are back with a brand new single titled ‘Girl Power’. The band are also excited to announce they will be touring the east coast with shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Newcastle.

The track finds MAIDS continue steadily on their path of pop convention destruction, combining elements of metal, doom, 60’s rock and Katy Perry inspired melodies. Written, recorded and mixed by drummer/lead vocalist Sean Cook, the song is a tongue in cheek statement about misogyny in pop culture, with a serious message amongst the trademark down-tuned riffs the band is renowned for.

According to Cook, “It’s a story about a girl rejecting a man harassing her in a nightclub. Girls are often sexually objectified, particularly in hip hop, and I wanted to poke fun at the sleazy nature of a lot of men”.

With a critically acclaimed EP and a string of singles behind them, Maids are moving full steam ahead to lead the pack of emerging acts coming from Newcastle’s rejuvenated rock scene. Having already supported the likes of DZ Deathrays, British India, Kingswood, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, and more, you can catch them on the ‘Girl Power’ Tour this April to discover why those in the know refer to them as one of the most exciting live acts in the country.
