On Monday, August 8, we're putting on a relaxed, community-centric event featuring live music, a pop-up art gallery and all kinds of awesomeness.

Our hosts this month, Red Star Fitness, are a kickarse local collective who run all kinds of creative events and classes, and will hopefully be putting on a few acrobatic performances as part of the evening's lineup.

As usual, our hope is for this event to be a hub for creatively-minded people to meet and collaborate, as well as a place where fledgling artists and performers can get exposure in front of an open and appreciative audience. We're also keen for it to serve as a space for people to inform themselves about political activism and keep updated about ongoing protest actions.

The night kicks off at 6pm (but you can arrive/leave whenever you please). The pop-up art gallery will feature local visual artists. We'll also present a variety of performances throughout the evening, from solo singer-songwriters, to comedians and poets, to high-energy funk bands.

The open mic session kicks off at the start of the night before the programmed acts. Please note: We try to give everyone an opportunity to perform, but there are lots of keen musos and poets around so please try to be there from 6pm if you're keen to get up for open mic. If you're keen for open mic but you're not there by 6:15ish, you may well miss out.

This event is about breaking down traditional barriers between performers and audience members. We sometimes have an acoustic jam at the end of the night, so bring your instruments. No matter what your level of ability is, you're welcome to participate. (And of course you're also welcome to arrive early/stay late to help us set up/clean up the space.)

Entry is free. This is a safe, all-ages event, so families and under-18s are welcome. Remember that everyone involved in this event is a volunteer, so please be respectful and clean up after yourself.
