THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS

The smash hit of the 2016 MELT Queer Arts Festival returns for an encore presentation at the Queensland Cabaret Festival.

Directed by James Lees and featuring eight of Brisbane’s finest vocalists with a mighty 12-piece supergroup behind them, the show blew the minds and hearts of audiences across three sold out performances. For Queensland Cabaret Festival, this group come together again to perform David Bowie’s masterpiece album in its entirety along with an entire second act of other Bowie material from this, and other, eras of his astounding career on Earth as an artist and musician. With some new ideas, songs and reimagining, this iteration of the show will delve a little deeper into some of Bowie’s darker and more theatrical works – all still with the emotional intensity and beating rock and roll heart of the ZIGGY phenomenon at its core.

Lees again brings the album to life with vocalists Alison St Ledger (Sissybones/Women In Voice), Sandro Colarelli, Brett Harris (SS.Sebastian/The Good Ship), Sahara Beck, Emma Dean (Emma Dean & The Hungry Truth/Women In Voice), Tim Steward (Screamfeeder/We All Want To), Daniel Hack (Lovejoy) and Lucinda Shaw (Silver Sircus). Behind them will be a 12-piece Brisvegas supergroup featuring members of Silver Sircus, guitarists Kevin Haigh and Jeff Lovejoy, drummer Christopher Dixon, Jimi Beavis on the blues harp and saxophinists Andrew Saragossi and Julian Palma. ABOUT THE ALBUM…A loose concept album, ZIGGY begins with a song about the looming end of the world (Five Years) and resolves with the alien protagonist appealing to his legion of fans to save him from certain death (Rock & Roll Suicide). In between these extremes, the music and lyrics careen through space rock wigouts (Moonage Daydream), glam rock fantasies (Star, Hang Onto Yourself), gender and sexual fluidity (Ziggy Stardust), friendly extra-terrestrials (Starman) and the queerest of unrequited loves (Lady Stardust).
