Quality patties are made from aged Herefordshire beef and served rare at this enticing restaurant aboard the Spyglass

Three Brothers Burgers, aboard the Spyglass on Welsh Back, has been casually amassing a reputation for its no-nonsense baps. The menu is slight – and all the better for it – with the bulk dedicated to burgers, but enough alternative offerings for those in the mood for something less meaty. All of the burgers are supported by glazed brioche buns and served rare – which is a testament to the quality of the 28-day aged Herefordshire beef that’s used in the patties.

To start, a simple bar snack, such as the wasabi peanuts (£2.50), does well to amplify the appetite. For mains, the venison burger (£9.50) is highly recommended – gamey beef and venison juices mix with Emmental, sweet cured bacon, exquisite truffle aioli and house port and cranberry relish, providing just the right mix of savoury and sweet.

If burgers aren’t your thing, then the selection of subs, wings and dogs should make an enticing alternative, while the buttermilk fried chicken Caesar salad (£8.50) will make you wonder why it isn't a more common menu staple. The beef frankfurters, meanwhile (from £5.75), are juicy, flavoursome and have the right amount of snap.
