The 'collection' in the name refers to the fact that this impressive new gallery, containing both Argentinian and international art, is the
privately owned treasure trove of the
country's richest woman, Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat. Of the Argentinian works, look out for the psychologically complex paintings of Carlos Alonso and the highly versatile work on show by Antonio Berni. Downstairs, don't miss the Dalí or the Brueghel pieces, the Warhol portrait of Amalita, the collection's owner, nor William Turner's Juliet and her Nurse, a typical experiment in optical realism by the British master that is thought to be worth US$60 million.
