Goose Island turned 25 this year, and it's continuing the celebration this week with a new limited bottle release. The beer, Brettanomite, is an American wheat beer that’s aged in oak barrels and fermented for 13 months with wild yeast strains Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, Lambicus and Lactobacillus.

The 6.3% ABV sour ale is golden in color and has distinct wild aromas of ripe fruit, a mildly tart flavor and a crisp, clean finish. Brettanomite is the fourth and final 25th Anniversary release. Prior beers were Silver Jubilee Double IPA, Flanders Red Ale and Cthulhu Barrel Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout. Goose Island Clybourn (1800 N Clybourn Ave) typically sticks to brewing draft-only beers, but for the 25th anniversary, they decided to create the four brand new beers to bottle and sell.

Brewmaster Nick Barron and his team bottled, hand-labeled and wax dipped 25 cases of the beer at Clybourn, so there aren't many bottles available. Want a taste before you buy a bottle? Get a sample of Brettanomite on draft at the Clybourn brewpub on November 7 and 14. If you like what you try, queue up at Clybourn on November 16 at 10am to purchase one of the yellow-waxed 750ml bottles for $20.
