THE NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND AWARD DuPage Children’s Museum

Parents of kids with special needs know that something as simple as a museum visit can quickly turn into a stress-fueled nightmare. That’s why we love this west suburban museum, where exhibits are specially equipped to accommodate all kids, including those with autism-spectrum disorders, and visual or mobility impairments. Accessibility has been part of the museum’s mission since it opened 25 years ago, but the offerings continue to grow: Besides perks like braille books for the visually impaired and photo books that help autistic kids plan out their visit, the museum stays open late, until 8pm, once per month just for special needs kids to play while parents learn more about relevant organizations and resources. Past Third Thursday events have included visits from therapy animals and interactive dance performances, which promise fun for all kids. 301 N Washington St, Naperville (630-637-8000).
