Landmark Century Cinema

Though it's located on top of a seemingly abandoned mall, the Landmark's lineup of studio-backed indie films and obscure midnight screenings is worth the trip. The theater's bar and snack options can be just as quirky as the movie you're seeing, making it the perfect destination for the cinephile in training.

Tickets here are kind of expensive (but what movie theatre isn't these days?). But what I like here is that it's small and focused on their community. Before the movie I was seeing started, the manager of the theater came to announce that the movie was about to begin and thanked us for coming out. It was a great personal touch. They also recently added a beautiful bar, and you can grab a glass of wine or beer before you head into your show!

Though it's not as fancy as some of its newer competitors, the oddly laid-out Landmark has its charms, and the theater has made some upgrades in recent years to bring it up to modern standards, including reclining seats and the addition of an inviting lobby bar (you can bring your drinks into the movie). The programming is mostly indie fare you're not likely to find at the other multiplexes, but there's the occasional big-budget offering—I saw the new Star Wars there.
