SPLURGE
“A gift for my then new boyfriend (now husband), Jesus Salgueiro. I bought Jesus a 30,000-square-foot ancient, crumbling, historic 1903 [Chicago] church at an auction for $500,000. He wanted a painting studio. All I could see was [a headline like] ‘Crazy Oprah chef has a boyfriend named Jesus who paints angels and now has a church’ in the press.”

REGRET
“A $100,000 Range Rover.
I am too rough and too messy for a fancy luxury car. I got rid of it at a loss and bought a VW Jetta that can take a beating.”
