Sporty dad
For in-shape families, the Lincoln Park Turkey Trot is the quintessential T-Day trek along the lakefront. The 8K distance is nothing to scoff at (that’s almost exactly 5 miles) and there’s also a fun run (Plymouth Rock Ramble) for kids ages 2 to 12 afterward. Nov 24 at 9am. Registration is $30, kids’ run $15, at caprievents.com.

Hungover brother
Perfect for weekend warriors looking to do a little damage control from Thanksgiving food and drink revelry, the Grant Park Turkey Trot lasts a manageable 3.1 miles. (And, ahem, there’s a walk option, too.) Plus, it’s a cinch to get to, thanks to public transit options in the Loop. Nov 26 at 9am. Registration is $32 at allcommunityevents.com.

Fitness-freak sister-in-law
Like thousands of other Chicagoans, she finished the Chicago Marathon last month and remains super-fit. The Schaumburg Turkey Trot Half Marathon will be right up her alley. Bonus: Couch potato(ish) family members can tackle the 5K run. Nov 26 at 9am (5K at 9:35am). Registration is $52 ($32 for 5K) at allcommunityevents.com.
