Your perfect weekend | A Very Carrie Christmas + winter sports + SantaCon

Five things to do this weekend

Driehaus Museum

Driehaus Museum

Friday, Dec 2

We’ve lucked out with decent fall weather, but if temps drop, the Chicago Park District has us covered: On Northerly Island, snowshoe and cross-country skiing are available on select Saturdays and Sundays through February when at least three inches of snow cover the ground. Hard-core winter-sport enthusiasts can bring their own equipment. The rest of us can rent skis and showshoes for $5 per two-hour rental period. 1400 S Linn White Dr (312-745-2910). 10am–4pm; free, rental $5.

We’re generally too lazy to decorate our apartment for the holidays, but we still appreciate those who undertake the flickering-light and garland madness. Enter Driehaus Museum, whose 18th-century halls receive a modern holiday makeover for Christmas. Daily tours show off enviable embellishments. 40 E Erie St (312-482-8933, ext 21). 10am–5pm; $20, students $10; add $5 for guided tour.
