After 9pm, the Art Institute of Chicago is just for revelers. No bratty kids running amok, no professor wanna-bes postulating on Van Gogh’s madness. After Dark (The Art Institute of Chicago Modern Wing, 159 E Monroe St; 877-307-4242, museumtix.com; 9pm–midnight; $25, members and students $20) is just some people chillaxing, drinking cocktails and checking out some amazing artworks in tonight’s featured exhibit, the museum’s new galleries of African Art and Indian Art of the Americas.
In “Art of Green,” (Brushwood house, Ryerson Woods, 21850 N Riverwoods Rd, Deerfield; 847-968-3343; 10am–2pm; free) a dozen artists tackle sustainability in different ways, including using found objects or recycled material, photo-documenting endangered animals or reusing materials to make high-concept furniture. The artwork is located in and outside of the old, wooded Ryerson estate, which now houses the exhibit organizer, conservation group Friends of Ryerson Woods.
