Your perfect weekend | yarn bomb + Button-O-Matic + 9/11 anniversary
Five things to do this weekend | German-American Fest, West Loop–area gallery openings and more
Tue Sep 6 2011
Friday, Sept 9
To celebrate its new pins (as in those inch-wide round doodads you might stick on a messenger bag), Busy Beaver Button Co. throws the Superhero! Button-O-Matic Release Party. The curated line of pins includes glow-in-the-dark, 3-D and X-ray–vision designs by comic artists Jeffrey Brown, Lilli Carré, Laura Park and others. Pick one up for 25¢, take some photo-booth shots and (for the first 50 guests) leave with a super awesome gift bag. Busy Beaver Button Co., 3279 W Armitage Ave (busybeaver.net). 6–9pm; free.
Tonight, many of the city’s contemporary art galleries swing open their doors for art viewing, hobnobbing and sipping wine in plastic cups. Kicking off the fall art season, West Loop–area gallery openings include Western Exhibitions (119 N Peoria St, 2A), Tony Wight Gallery (845 W Washington St) and moniquemeloche gallery (2154 W Division St). About 6–9pm; free.
