The beginning of the end of Mad Men starts Sunday
Don Draper's swan song adds to an already packed evening of television
Fri Apr 11 2014
We warned you last week that Sunday nights were becoming a minefield for DVR conflicts. Well, this week it's only getting worse. At 9pm, AMC will air the first episode of the first half of the last season of Mad Men. The network is following the same model they established with Breaking Bad's final chapter, airing the first seven episodes of award-winning series' seventh season this spring, with the final seven episodes airing next year.
We'd love to give you some juicy tidbits on the season premiere, but alas, creator Matthew Weiner loves his mystery and has, as per usual, provided a brief but broad list of items that critics have been asked not reveal, including the year the season takes place, Don's work status and any new characters. Without breaking the rules, we will tell you that, while this season premiere doesn't have that watercooler "Zou Bisou Bisou" moment, it defines the new normal of Don Draper and everyone at SC&P nicely, paving the way for what's sure to be a must-watch final season.
And if you're one of those people who finds Mad Men a little too bleak, you could always head over to Showtime to learn about climate change from Harrison Ford and Don Cheadle in Years of Living Dangerously.
