The short film Vow of Silence tells the story of Jade, a heartbroken composer who takes a vow of silence to win back the heart of Isis, her true love. In her struggle to reconnect with Isis, she meets Jaxson, an outgoing musician. Utilizing music, magic, and silence, Jade finds her voice in the place she least expects it. In her inability to speak, Jade communicates her pain, weakness, power, and joy through music. Watch the film trailer:

The screening will be followed by a live music performance by filmmaker, composer, and director Be Steadwell. With roots in jazz vocals, acapella, and folk, Be composes a soulful blend of genres in what she calls “queerpop.” In her live performances, she utilizes loop pedal vocal layering and beat boxing to compose her songs on stage.

Be Steadwell is a filmmaker, singer and songwriter from Washington DC. Redefining the love song in a modern context, Be's music focuses on love and resistance between women. Be has performed at Strathmore's AMP (2015), The Apollo Music Cafe (2014), toured internationally with the Revival tours (2012 and 2014), performed at Toshi Reagon's "Word Rock & Sword Festival" (2013-2014), opened for Nona Hendryx (Joe's Pub NYC 2014), and composed music for the feature film "Stud Life" (2013). Be is currently touring her music and screening her film, Vow of Silence internationally. Learn more at
