The Movement Factory says
The Lindy Hop routine "Stops" or "First Stops", was not surprisingly a Frankie Manning creation. "In 1937 as Jimmie Lunceford began playing "Posin'" Frankie's confidence and intuitive understanding of the music allowed him to freeze in place during the breaks in the music. This inspired Frankie to try these "stops" to other songs where the music didn't stop but merely withdrew to the back ground, and eventually to any Lindy Hop song." This mini choreography was regularly used in competitions and social dancing at the Savoy and is an important part of Lindy Hop history and a great routine to get your feet wet. You will leave this workshop with some great Lindy, Charleston, and solo jazz moves and also a slightly better understanding of swing music and musicality.

Your basics in Lindy and Charleston should be pretty solid if you want to take this class and not suffer a total brain melt down.

You do not need a partner to take this class as we will rotate partners. Instructors will dance with students.

The teachers for this workshop are national and international swing dance champion and Get Hep Swing owner, Valerie Salstrom and long time swing dancer and swing dance teacher, Paul Carryer.

This class is open to dancers of all levels, even those with zero dance experience.
