Pegasus Reading Series: Brownderville & Wagenaar

Pegasus is a new monthly forum for poets and writers to showcase their work in the DFW area. Thank you to Kettle Arts for lending their space! This month we showcase the work of Gregory Brownderville and Chelsea Wagenaar. Open mike follows the features. Get there early to sign up. Greg Alan Brownderville first collection of poems, entitled Gust (Northwestern University Press/TriQuarterly, 2011)was included among “Top Picks” by the Library Journal. Brownderville published Deep Down in the Delta (Butler Center Books, 2012), a collection of folkloristic poems based on fieldwork he conducted in and around his home community of Pumpkin Bend, Arkansas. Brownderville’s third book, a collection of poems entitled A Horse with Holes in It, will be released by LSU Press on Dave Smith’s Southern Messenger Poets series in the fall of 2016. Brownderville has been awarded prizes and fellowships from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the Missouri Review, Prairie Schooner, New Millennium Writings, and the Porter Fund. Since 2012 Brownderville has been an assistant professor of English at SMU in Dallas, where he teaches creative writing, primarily poetry. Chelsea Wagenaar is the author of Mercy Spurs the Bone (Anhinga, 2015), the 2013 winner of the Philip Levine Prize for Poetry, chosen by Philip Levine. She is the recipient of a Toulouse Fellowship at the University of North Texas, where she is a doctoral teaching fellow. Her poems have appeared or been accepted for publication recently in Meridian, The Southeast Review, Crab Orchard Review, Fugue, and Plume. She lives in Denton with her husband, fellow poet Mark Wagenaar, and they are expecting their first child in early July.
