Time Out says
Come and support our mayor at Plano Moving forward for his courageous steps towards advancing equality in this city. On December 8th, 2014, the city of Plano, TX bravely passed a measure to amend Plano's non-discrimination policy to include protection for "...race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin,
genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, familial
status [and] United States military/veteran status...". Some of the groups protected were included in previous policy, but others, such as sexual orientation and gender identity were not included in the past. In addition, the bill also extended the areas in which people are protected from discrimination. Opponents of equality are trying to table this legislation by launching a ballot initiative to overturn the policy most likely in the upcoming May 2015 election. In the meantime, it is imperative that we fight efforts to get it onto the ballot, but more importantly we must prepare for the likely result that it will appear on the ballot. In this event, we must vote down this measure. In addition, we need to ensure that pro-equality Plano candidates are elected to positions on Plano's city council.
