First Friday Reception For Translucent Winds: Justin Ankenbauer says
Helikon is pleased to present Translucent Winds, a solo exhibit featuring new work by Justin Ankenbauer. Justin, a longtime studio artist and gallery participant at Helikon, has become known for his distinct style of abstract painting. His work ranges from brightly colored, tangled compositions that flow across canvases to contemplative minimalism composed primarily by line and sparing use of color. The works in Translucent Winds fall into and between these sensibilities, with colorful bold strokes emerging beneath blankets of white paint.

The exhibit is free and open to the public, with complimentary food and drinks as well as limited off street parking. This exhibit will be shown alongside Stratum: New Works by Naomi Scheck & Peter Yumi: https://www.facebook.com/events/1503647793294335/

Artist's Statement

Translucent Winds is an open ended process. These works display the painting process as a way to understand change when a painter habitually moves a paintbrush into organic structures. These structures cause the painter to react. Working through personal variables such as nervous energy, reactions and habits leaves clues for viewers to navigate from one piece to the next, which causes an emotional ripple.
