The event creator says
On April 9, Syntax Physic Opera will host the opening exhibition for Mark and Kristen Sink and Patrick Andrade's Month of Photography exhibition. For this event, we are hosting an evening that hasn’t happened since May 20, 1895. We are rewinding the times to re-create the great New York City Pie Girl Dinner. This 1895 date was the first time a girl ever jumped out of a pie – a now-ubiquitous occurrence – hosted in Mark Sink’s Great Grandfather’s artist studio.

On exhibition will be the Sink's and Andrade’s prints from collodion wetplates – the actual plates (on tin or glass) are created through a chemical process and are both on display at Syntax. For this exhibition, the works were blown up and hung in the venue. Andrade will be demonstrating the process, live on April 9.

There was a first for everything: for the first photograph. For the first girl to jump out of a cake. Or, really, a pie. Denver photographer Mark Sink’s bloodline runs straight to the “Father of American Photography”. And in 1895 the conversation between photography, art and New York City socialites convalesced all into one event that would become famous: What has now famously been dubbed “The Pie Girl Dinner”. This lascivious event was the first occurrence of a girl jumping out of a pie, leading to what we now see in more post-modern times, a girl jumping out a cake.

The exhibition begins at 6:00 p.m. Supper will be served at 7:00 p.m., followed by the girl jumping out of the pie. At dusk attendees will be treated to some American jazz by the Minor Note Orchestra.
