Centuries of merchandising, parodies, and spinoffs have put William Shakespeare (1564-1616) and Jane Austen (1775-1817) on a first name basis with the world. Explore the stories of "Will" and "Jane" and the nature of literary celebrity.
Kristina Straub, Professor of English, and Director of the Literary and Cultural Studies Program at Carnegie Mellon University, co-curated the recent Folger Shakespeare Library exhibit exploring how Shakespeare and Austen have been celebrated over the last 400 years. Straub teaches courses in Gender Studies, Feminist Cultural Studies, Performance Studies, and early modern British literature and culture.
