The event creator says
CRIPPLED is the culmination of the thesis work of Angelina Davis as she comes to a close of her undergraduate degree at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. The work revolves around the intersection of memory, neuropathy, and the concomitant or sometimes subsequent harm that can be inflicted upon the body due to the misfiring or malfunction of the nervous system. The work is a personal exploration of a long awaited and unfulfilling diagnosis of Tension Myoneural Syndrome, which results in the perception of chronic pain, believed to be caused by a misfiring in the brain, and heavily induced by the repression of memory.

Angelina Davis has archived photos from her childhood that are lost from her memory into mirages of material reality, perception, and experience in order to investigate the every-day consequences of her invisible illness.

CRIPPLED is a selection of this archive, and will be hosted by Hatch Gallery in Hamtramck, Michigan on March 1st, 2016. Reception runs from 6 PM-9 PM.
