You could be excused for thinking that Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel was a classic-style synth band from the '70s, except the name of the group tells you the exact instrumentation of the group. The earliest electric instrument, the Theremin has been much abused and under-utilized over the years, which makes the artistry of the playing in this group even more apparent. Mixed with the pastoral sounds of lap steel guitar, the combinations of sonorities can evoke the natural splendor of cavernous places, sci-fi-odyssey surrealism, industrial mechanization,

Not only will DFTLS be playing their own set, but they'll be joining ex-Detroiter Bill Brovold for his performance. Many folks in town will remember Bill as the leader of Larval; he also had a significant career in NYC before moving here in the '90s. He's released numerous CDs and performed with avant-rock legends like Rhys Chatham and Glenn Branca.

Julian Lynch plays catchy art pop that draws on numerous sources, but maintains a sunny disposition and a low-fi aesthetic. Local improvisors Ben Willis and Rachael Harbert kick off this diverse bill of creative music.
