Join us on Sunday, June 25 for Pewabic’s second Kiln Pad Pop-Up Exhibition, where Didem Mert's work will be available for purchase 1-4 PM. Don't miss this opportunity to meet Mert and add one of her pieces to your collection.

Mert’s work reflects design influences cultivated by her childhood as the daughter of a Turkish woodworker and her interests in varying textures and geometric designs in colors that range from soft and earthy to bright and vibrant.

An avid cook, Mert forms a connection between her pieces and their contents — soup in a bowl becomes part of the presentation as do gingersnap cookies on a spice-colored plate — and the surrounding environments. Mert explores this further as part of the M&M Clay and Food Porn Project with fellow cook and photographer Lydia Bungart-Morrison. Images and recipes appear on Mert’s website www.didemmert.com.

A native of Cincinnati, Mert earned her BFA in Ceramics from Northern Kentucky University in 2014, with her work appearing at Baltimore Clayworks; The Clay Studio of Philadelphia; The Morean Center for Clay in St. Petersburg, Fla., and at more than 40 additional venues. Her work appeared in the Ceramics Monthly 2014 Undergraduate Showcase, and Three Arts Foundation awarded her work a first prize grant in 2014. Named one of C File’s 15 Potters to Watch in 2016, Mert appeared on the cover of Pottery Making Illustrated’s January/February 2016 issue holding several of her stoneware bowls. Didem is currently completing her MFA in Ceramics from Edinboro University in Edinboro, Penn.
