Hatch Art is pleased to announce a ONE NIGHT ONLY thesis exhibit "Mistaken for Strangers" by graduating College for Creative Studies student Kasper Ray O’Brien.

The work challenges conventions of gender and sexuality while working to deconstruct culturally inherited signifiers of gender specificity and presentation by highlighting the performative aspects of identity. By isolating my gestures I explore flamboyance as a sensibility while addressing contemporary ideas of otherness that are associated with how the body is perceived. Heavily influenced by drag culture and camp aesthetics, I am interested in the effects of hiding and the oscillation between visibility and invisibility, recognition and illegibility. Through the concept of the mask, I am seeking out the emotions that are elicited from this flaunted anonymity.
