Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD says
Critical processing of art is a crucial part of developing a strong personal art practice and an engaged eye as a viewer. Participants in this workshop led by Detroit's Essay'd collective, will learn different approaches to arts writing, through applying them to the work of renowned, and sometimes controversial, artist Sanford Biggers. Highlights of the workshop will include a group discussion of previous criticism of Biggers, an open interview with the artist himself, and the opportunity to submit a 750 word essay. Selected essays will be reviewed in a public editorial meeting and published on the MOCAD website. People with varied abilities and interests are encouraged to attend; there is room within every writer's practice for improvement, and we look forward to helping develop our critical voices together!

Admission: Free with registration. There are two dates with limited capacity, Sunday, September 25 and Sunday, October 9 from 1-3pm.
