The biggest sci-fi hit since Lost, Westworld has entranced viewers since it began airing on HBO two years ago. The series, now with two seasons under its belt, tells the story of Offred, a ‘handmaid’ enslaved for her ability to have children in the series’s largely infertile world. With prescient themes surrounding women's rights, religion, politics and much more, The Handmaid’s Tale has dominated the discourse surrounding popular culture since it began airing. Based on the debut novel by Gillian Flynn – of Gone Girl fame – Sharp Objects is a psychological thriller condensed into eight intense episodes. Amy Adams stars as a crime reporter who returns to her hometown in Missouri – having been recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital after years of self-harming – to investigate the murders of two young girls. Adams is on career-best form and the series has been described as this year’s Big Little Lies.
