If you're a proud fashionista who answered yes to those questions, then make sure you don't miss Hong Kong – and Asia’s – premier fashion event, Centrestage, as it makes a dazzling return at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on September 5-8. Essentially Hong Kong’s answer to the Fashion Weeks in Milan, Paris and New York, Centrestage shines a spotlight on the world’s most sought-after fashion brands as they showcase their latest collections, as well as exciting debuts from the hottest Asian designer labels. The event is open to the public on September 8, where you’ll get the opportunity to surround yourself up close with beautiful clothes and stay way ahead of the fashion game. Need more convincing? Spanning over an entire hall at the HKCEC, some 230 fashion brands and labels from all around the globe make themselves known at this showcase. Visitors can peruse over the latest collections and enjoy a sneak peak of the upcoming season’s wardrobe must-haves. With three thematic zones – Allure, Iconic and Metro – you can dive in among the clothing racks and mannequins and discover the next big trend.
No fashion event is complete without a catwalk. And Centrestage is hosting not one, but more than 20 captivating runway shows throughout the four-day affair. Catch the latest and most innovative creations fresh off the designer’s sketches, before attending designer sharing sessions and networking events with trailblazers of the industry. Kickstarting the event is Centrestage Elites, the opening gala show on September 5, where three exciting designer labels – Facetasm from Japan, Idism from Hong Kong and Ms Min from Mainland China – unveil their SS19 collections.
There’s nothing more thrilling than witnessing completely fresh ideas and welcoming new talent to the scene. And there’s no better platform to do so than at the annual Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest where our city’s best and brightest young visionaries show off their ideas. Also don’t miss fashion environmental NGO Redress as it stages another edition of the Redress Design Award, which so happens to be the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition.
Keep your finger on the pulse and look forward to a series of chats and panels at the Trend Talk Series led by movers and shakers of the fashion industry as they share and exchange their valuable insights. Taking place on September 5, the star-studded lineup includes Anupreet Bhui, Senior Editor of Global Street Style at WGSN, who will be diving into topics on upcoming fashion trends, rising influence of streetwear among Gen Z, as well as the importance of sustainability in the industry.
The fun doesn’t end there. As part of the public-facing programme, Hong Kong in Fashion, there are more than 90 fashion-savvy events to take part in, running from August 15 to September 30 throughout the city’s shopping malls, hotels and boutiques. Some of the highlights include a fashion-themed tattoo experience, stylish afternoon tea, and parades at Lee Tung Avenue.
