The annual documentary film festival returns with 13 new films

Organised by Amnesty International, the Hong Kong Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is one of the most important film fests to take place in the city.

Selected documentaries this year include the award-winning Scarlet Road about an Australian woman who sells sex to people with disabilities; Fight For Justice, which focuses on activist lawyers in Taiwan; Out Run a film that examines the participation of the world’s first LGBT political party, Ladlad, in Filipino politics; and The Jangmadang Generation, which looks at the North Korean youngsters engaged in their country’s black markets.

The main portion of the festival takes place September 22-29 at Broadway Cinematheque, but free community screenings take place at intervals from September 7 until November 8.
