As one of the best cities to visit in America, Houston has enough attractions to keep visitors busy no matter how long they’re in town. It’s hard to grasp just how big it all is. Everything about Houston basically screams major, and that is especially true when it comes to attractions.  In Houston, there are hundreds of cultural institutions, historic sites, and entertainment venues, and as one of the most diverse major cities in the country with no racial majority and over 145 languages spoken, you’re going to need to factor in ample time to sample the slew of international flavors available. We’ve whittled down the 20 must-visit spots to check out based on popularity among locals and connection to the city. While some are fairly predictable, others might surprise you—just like the city itself. Things are gonna get busy in H-town, so fuel up and explore till ya drop. You might know about Houston’s food already, but don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s all just Tex-Mex. This is one of the most exciting culinary scenes in America (partly owed to its population of over six million), and the food is as diverse as its population.  So yes, there’s some of the best Tex-Mex and barbecue you’ll ever taste, but there’s also the fantastic Chinese food in Houston’s Chinatown, the fresh seafood from the Gulf Coast, and some rather decadent European fare too (yes, there is cods roe). Whatever you’re in the mood for, there’s something for you here. These are the best restaurants in Houston.  RECOMMENDED:📍 The best things to do in Houston🏘️ The best Houston Airbnbs🏛 The best Houston attractions🇺🇸 The best hotels in Houston This article was written by Texas-based James Wong. There’s no beating Houston for the best museums in all of Texas. Houston is a mega-city, and with a mega-city comes top-notch exhibits, restaurants worth flying in for, endless things to do (both for kids and adults), and culture to the max. Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas may have a lot to offer by way of museums in the Lone Star State, but Houston has virtually everything covered.  The quality is world-class, and many of them are free to enter (or offer special free days and discounts), making them extra accessible. Though you’ll find exhibits dotted all over town, the Museum District is where the core of it lies. This leafy, quiet neighborhood between the Texas Medical Center and Rice University contains 18 museums within a 1.5-mile radius. From here to the edges of the city, there’s a museum to suit nearly everyone’s interests – whether you’re fascinated by great art, Texas culture, space, or even funeral history.

For the same reason it’s a great place for children to grow up, figuring out things to do with kids in Houston isn’t rocket science. By design, the city has it all, flourishing scence of art, culture, nature, entertainment, and the types of larger-than-life activities you might expect from the state’s biggest city (everything’s bigger in Texas, after all).
Here, the world-famous Space Center Houston will impress kids of all ages while a sprawling aquarium complex is one of the top children’s museums in the US. Coupled with plenty of inspired green spaces and parks, the city has a knack for having it all. Not to mention, you’re never far from adventure—those with a car can check out Galveston and the Gulf Coast just an hour away (it’s like Houston’s version of Coney Island), a popular destination for waterfront activities. Below, we’ve rounded up the best things to do with kids in Houston to make the most of your time in H-Town.RECOMMENDED: our full guide for the best things to do in Houston

The first word spoken on the moon was “Houston,” so it’s fitting that the city is home to one of the finest interstellar museums on planet Earth. NASA’s Space Center Houston boasts a multitude of permanent displays and attractions, but the real star of the show is the new Independence Plaza exhibit, a 747 airplane with a full replica of the space shuttle Independence mounted above it. In a world first, guests can explore inside both aircraft, from the flight decks to the astronaut living quarters. For those more curious to see how present-day NASA operates, take a Level 9 Tour, complete with behind-the-scenes access to Mission Control at neighboring Johnson Space Center. Just be sure to book in advance: these tours access areas off-limits to the regular public and are only available for up to 12 guests a day.

What is the Houston Museum of Natural Science? One of the most popular museums in Houston, the Museum of Natural Science, covers so much territory that if one exhibit doesn’t appeal, you can take a few steps and find one that does. What can you expect? Permanent exhibits give you a sense of the variety: over 425 of Texas’ flora and fauna species displayed in natural dioramas, hundreds of ancient Egyptian artifacts dating back 5,000 years, 30,000 square feet of immersive energy experiences, and some of the world’s most impressive gems and minerals are just the beginning. Is the Houston Museum of Natural Science worth visiting? The dinosaurs in the Morian Hall of Paleontology are showstoppers all on their own, but there’s so much to see here, you won’t want to miss any of it. From the Cockrell Butterfly Center, a three-story rainforest where butterflies alight all around you and dip their wings in the 50-foot waterfall, to the Burke Baker Planetarium where constellations and asteroids engulf you, you’ll travel from the earth into space all in one day. What’s the best way to see the Houston Museum of Natural Science? The museum is open every day of the week, and every Tuesday is free from 5 to 8pm. The least crowded times to visit are Monday mornings when the museum opens at 9am. Convenient, flat-rate parking is available at the museum’s attached parking garage, and free parking is available at surrounding lots if you don’t mind a short walk. If you need accessibility accommod
